Minimizing deck ledger board connection points

With a layer of exterior insulation, the practice of a deck ledger board becomes problematic.    Even without the exterior insulation, a deck ledger board is typically a point of water intrusion.  The  recommended solution is to build a free-standing deck.    As shown in the diagram below, we can minimize the points where the deck would be structurally attached to the house to just the two four foot sections on the living room bump out.



The 4 foot sections on the living room wall would ideally be attached using the Cold Climate Housing Research "REMOTE" wall approach as shown below:
