Excavation Blues

After waiting all summer, the excavator finally got to our site on November 10.   They cleared the site, put in the driveway, and moved soil from the top of the hill down to the bottom to build up the building site.   At the end of the week we.....
1.   Knew that our planned house wouldn't fit - there was no way to access the garage after the grade was finished for the driveway.
2.  Had over 10,000 square feet of bare soil that needed to be planted and protected from erosion - and the rains were coming.
3.  Were sad that the beautiful treed lot was now a pile of sand.
4.  Were worried that everything would wash out over winter and we didn't have time to put down a layer of asphalt before winter -- and the spring rains would further erode the site.

It was a stressful week.    And....now we need to take the winter to totally re-plan the project, come up with a new house plan and find the energy and the enthusiasm to begin again.   So disappointed.   So much anxiety.   So much time invested for it not to turn out how we thought.  Maybe we should just sell it?   But....we would still need to get the lot back to looking like somewhere someone would want to live.   Time to take a break and head back to Texas to think.
