Winnipeg Window Tour

We drove to Winnipeg to see a couple of window manufacturers.   Canada seems to know how to make windows that perform in a cold climate.   The windows are thermally broken, triple pane, with multiple gaskets.

We toured Duxton with Judson and Aynsley.   They do some amazing things with fiberglass frames and interesting configurations.   It is a small shop - but with great attention to detail.

We spent time at Accurate Dorwin with Yuki.    It's a larger manufacturing facility - but doesn't do as much custom work.

Our last vendor to visit is H windows in Wisconsin.   We love their doors and they are able to do large awning windows.  However, the product is wood and we are concerned about condensation and damage to interior finish.

The cost between Accurate and Duxton was fairly similar.   Duxton's base window is only a double gasket - but you can upgrade to a triple gasket.   Accurate charges extra for color - while Duxton offers a nice expresso frame for the same color as white.   Either one was much cheaper than Marvin Integrity Ultimate Casement -- about 1/3 less.

While in town, we went to see some homes that are putting in Duxton windows.   We ended up visiting with Danny and Julianne at their home which was undergoing a deep energy retrofit.  They are using larsen trusses and dense pack cellulose - a very similar wall structure to where we are heading.   It was great to hear about their experience and see another house with similar building techniques.
