Electrical Systems

PV system: We will be able to mount a PV system on top of the small shed roof. It's close to the power meter and faces direct south with minimal blockage from trees.

Air Barrier Requirements: Minimal electrical runs will go through the air barrier. A false ceiling will need to be in the house where necessary to run wire and place light fixtures. There will need to be two panels - one in the garage and one in the house to minimize penetrations. Outside lighting and outlets will be on the garage and lakeside porch.

Surge Protection: The whole house will have a surge protection system to protect electronics and appliances.

Ceiling fans:  Allow for 3 fans - Dining room and bedrooms. They will need to be mounted in beams or drop ceilings. Include wiring on the porches for future use - those can be mounted directly into the ceiling.

Lighting:
  • All of the lighting will be LED.
  • Recessed lights can be placed in the drop ceiling over the kitchen and hallway to the bedrooms.
  • Bathrooms will also have drop ceilings to allow for lighting and ventilation runs.
  • The dining area, sitting area and bedrooms will all have a trim board running at the top of the windows/doors. The board will have a hidden LED lighting strip behind it to illuminate the room. We installed this in our tiny house condo -- and really liked the results:
