We were leaning toward a more modern design, a bit boxy - with a single plane roof. We couldn't get the shading to work out right on the windows and had too much ceiling height inside portions of the house. I picked up Dale Mulfinger's book, "The Getaway Home", along with a pile of other books on home design from the library.
One project spoke to us - "A New Porch Cabin". It's a new cabin made to look generations old. While we don't really want it to look old, we really like the concept of a cottage at the lake. We don't want a large house -- we want a cabin that is casual, easy to live in, easy to use, and all rooms have purpose.
